In the 1880s
James A. Smith began acquiring land around Hot Springs, Arkansas and selling Arkansas whetstone. The sharpening stone business grew over many years and across successive generations of the Smith family. During this time, Smith’s further refined their products, selling under their own brand and manufacturing for leading cutlery brands.
Over the last 25 years,
Smith’s has become the leader in developing innovative consumer sharpening products using alternate materials such as carbide, ceramic, and diamond, in addition to natural stone.
